Three (3) technical staff from the Crop Pest Management Division of the Bureau of Plant Industry, attended and participated in the recently conducted โ€œ56th PMCP Anniversary and Annual Scientific Conferenceโ€ held at La Carmela de Boracay on June 25 to 28, 2024.
 
With the theme, โ€œCultivating Resilience: Harnessing Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Pest Management in a Changing Climateโ€, esteemed resource speakers, scientists, and researchers were invited and contributed to the great success of the said activity. Thematic sessions, poster presentations, societal business meetings, and societal fellowships were the components of the said conference.
 
In relation to the theme of the conference towards sustainable agriculture, BPI-CPMD actively presented the results of their respective researches in the area of pest management for both oral and poster presentation.
 
As such the following researches were presented:
 
A. Oral Presentation: Ms. Jade Enot-Sanidad, Agriculturist I, presented their research titled โ€œDigitalization of Surveillance and Monitoring of Arthropod Pests and Diseases of Corn in the Philippinesโ€
 
B. Poster Presentation:
 
1. Dr. Peter Magdaraog, CPMD Chief, presented the poster for โ€œPerformance of Methyl Eugenol-Based Pheromone Lure Against Fruit Fly (Bactrocera sp.) in Zambalesโ€,
 
2. Mr. Paul Bernard L. La Torre, Science Research Specialist I, discussed the research poster with the title of โ€œUnderstanding the Biology of the Endoparasitoid Meteorus pulchricornis Under Bio-Assay Set-Up, Corn Fall Armyworm (Faw) as its Host Pestโ€
 
Further, Mr. Paul Bernard L. La Torre, registered as a new member of the Philippine Association of Entomologists (PAE).
 
The participation of the BPI-CPMD to scientific conferences will certainly boost and enhance their skills, knowledge, and updates on the current research, training, and other extension programs on pest management in the Philippines.
