The Development of Innovation System for Climate Smart Pest Management (CSPM) in Rice had conducted its 2nd year inception meeting and 1st quarter management team meeting in PhilRice.

 

In March 2024, CSPM began its second year of project implementation. This year, the team aims to complete various work packages led by different agencies participating in the project.The Philippine Rice Research Institute and Bureau of Plant Industry-Crop Pest Management Division hosted the inception meeting on June 14, 2024. During the meeting, the team discussed the project`s progress and the issues surrounding its implementation.

International Rice Research Institute shared their findings on the seed-borne diseases discovered in the collected seed samples. The team specified whether the diseases were emerging or re-emerging since the samples were only collected from three specified locations in Nueva Ecija, Isabela, and Laguna. The PhilRice team outlined their next steps for the project’s second year. At the same time, the BPI-CPMD team presented their outputs for the second year of the project.They also sought approval from the Bureau of Agricultural Research to exclude the requirement of translating rice pest reports into three major Filipino languages and to include this task in PRIME 2. BAR commended the team for the successful implementation of the project in the first year and for the accomplishments of the Biocon Forum.

Also, the BPI-CPMD team asked assistance on rearing of Onion Armyworm at the Plant Pests and Disease Clinic, Surveillance, and Research Center in Central Luzon State University and was facilitated by Ms. Elaida Fiegalan on June 13, 2024.Additionally, the team sought assistance from entomologist staff Ms. Evelyn Valdez during their visit at PhilRice on rearing Brown Planthopper and acquiring specimen for evaluating the efficacy of π˜‰π˜¦π˜’π˜Άπ˜·π˜¦π˜³π˜ͺ𝘒 𝘣𝘒𝘴𝘴π˜ͺ𝘒𝘯𝘒.
